About Amped Up.

With over 25 years of experience playing guitar and 10 years teaching, I bring a wealth of knowledge, technical skill, and passion to every lesson. I hold a degree in Music Technology from Queen’s University Belfast and have spent the past 20 years performing live across Ireland with rock and metal bands. This blend of academic training and stage experience allows me to teach not just how to play music, but how to play like a musician.

All equipment is provided—guitars, amps, keyboards & drum kits, everything—so you can get started without having to invest in gear upfront. It’s the perfect way to see if playing music is right for you!

Teaching rock music in school bands offers a wide range of educational and developmental benefits for students. Here are the key advantages:

Engagement and Motivation

Relevance: Many students find rock music more relatable and exciting than traditional classical repertoire.

Increased participation: Students who may not be interested in conventional band programs often become more engaged when rock music is included.

Creativity and Expression

Improvisation: Rock music often encourages improvisation, allowing students to express themselves musically.

Songwriting: Students may explore writing their own music, which enhances creative thinking and emotional expression.

Collaboration and Teamwork

Rock bands rely heavily on group dynamics, with each member contributing to the overall sound.

Students learn to listen, cooperate, and coordinate timing and rhythm with others.

Skill Development

Technical proficiency: Playing electric guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards helps students develop new instrumental skills.

Musical versatility: Students become more adaptable by learning different genres and styles.

Confidence and Performance Skills

Performing rock music in front of peers or at school events can boost self-esteem and stage presence.

It provides a safe environment to take risks and overcome performance anxiety.

Inclusivity

Rock band programs can be more accessible to students who don't read traditional notation but have strong aural skills.

Encourages participation from a more diverse student body, including those outside the traditional music education pipeline.
